Valentine’s Day:
This year, I wasn’t able to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my fiancée in person (我人不在她那兒). I wracked my brains (絞盡腦汁) trying to figure out (想出) what I could do that would be a nice surprise for her. She had already put together (做,編輯,組合) a touching (動人) video of our memories for me. Wow, that’s a hard act to follow! (怎麼辦,會被她比下去). Then I was hit with an idea (靈機一動) – I could make a love heart-shaped rocky road (照片裡的甜點名稱:rocky road).
The whole family joined in.
(1) The boys learned how to cut marshmallows (棉花糖) in two. [Tip: dip (沾) a knife in hot water after every few marshmallows.]
(2) We dumped (倒) the marshmallows into a love heart made of aluminium foil (鋁箔紙).
(3) The boys melted (融化) some chocolate on the stove (爐子). We filled a pan (平底鍋) with water, and then put the pot (鍋子) in the pan. In the picture, my son is stirring (攪拌) the chocolate with a wooden spoon.
(4) “Grannie” was directing (指揮) the boys to sprinkle (撒) the crushed nuts (碎堅果) on top of the melted chocolate.
(5) Finally, we put the rocky road in the fridge and let it set (固化).
Even though my fiancée detests (痛恨) chocolate, she still pretended to be touched by my pathetic (遜) Valentine’s Day surprise. (雖然我的rocky road不怎麼樣,我的fiancee還假裝受寵若驚)
[註:pathetic很常用喔!]
